In the work 'To Notice' I explore the seen object and the unseen felt sense, the visible with the invisible, the material and immaterial qualities.
The pieces presented form a narrative, with the two framed photographic images 'bracketing' the petit porcelain bowls in the glass cabinet. The apron and brushes symbolise the process of making through creativity and labour, by holding equal value to the bowls.
This work is an outcome of my PhD research. Re-imagining the ambient atmosphere as an invisible form, which focuses on the phenomenological process of combining the unseen conscious intention of making with seen or tangible objects the apron, the paint brushes and the bowls. By examining the 'aura' described by Walter Benjamin (1936)
as the invisible atmosphere of distance and awe which encompasses original works of art by incorporating the material body (subject), atmospheric art (object) and the invisible state of in between, my practice focuses on merging the intangible sensory experience with the tangiblility of the made object.
